According to officials, the Uttarakhand Cabinet on Friday cleared a proposal raising the monthly stipend for MBBS interns at state-run medical colleges from ₹17,000 to ₹25,000.
Following a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Banshidhar Tiwari, the state’s Director General of Information, announced that the monthly stipend for MBBS interns, previously ₹17,000 per month, has been raised to ₹25,000.
Banshidhar Tiwari, the state’s Director General of Information, noted that five government medical colleges are operating in Uttarakhand: Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Govt. Medical Sc. & Research Institute, Srinagar, Government Medical College Haldwani, Government Medical College Dehradun, Government Medical College Haridwar, and Soban Singh Jeena Government Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Almora, where MBBS and post-graduate courses are conducted.
Mr Tiwari further explained that under the Uttarakhand State Sports Policy-2021, there is a provision to offer “out-of-turn” (priority-based) employment to athletes who win medals in international or national sports events for gazetted or non-gazetted posts within the state. To implement this, the Uttarakhand Cabinet approved a proposal to fill 243 posts across the Sports, Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education, and Forest departments.
