India Wins Women’s Asia Cup Match Title: India avenged a previous defeat, beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the Asia Cup final held in Dubai on Sunday. In the match, Sri Charani took 4 wickets and Deepti Sharma took 3. This marked India’s eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
Earlier, India scored a total of 183/5 against Sri Lanka in the final, with both Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana scoring half-centuries and G. Kamalini providing a brilliant finish. Despite good starts, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh could not play big innings, as Sri Lanka rattled the Indian middle order by taking quick wickets in the death overs.
The Indian women’s team won the toss and chose to bat first against Sri Lanka. Both teams made one change each: India brought in Gunalan Kamalini in place of Pratika Rawal, while Sri Lanka replaced Sanjana Kavindi with Vishmi Gunaratne.
Shafali completed her fifty in just 24 balls and finished with 68 runs off 39 balls. Meanwhile, Mandhana reached her half-century in 35 balls and scored 59 runs before being run out. On the bowling front, Sri Charani took four wickets, while Deepti Sharma claimed three.
India avenged their loss to Sri Lanka from the 2024 final and extended their record by winning their eighth title. However, the Indian team refused to accept the winner’s trophy from PCB Chief and ACC Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
