Physics, Chemistry, Maths not Compulsory in Class 12th for Admission in Architecture: AICTE
The technical education regulator had last year announced that students who have not studied Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics (PCM) in Class 12 would be able to take admission in engineering and technology programmes, creating a huge uproar.
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics will no longer be compulsory subjects for admission in architecture, (undergraduate courses) according to the approval process manual for 2022-23 released by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on Tuesday. The other two courses which will not compulsorily require PCM subjects in class 12 are Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology.

A senior AICTE official said, “We had constituted an expert committee to make recommendations on admissions for which PCM can be made optional. Based on the recommendations of the panel, three courses admission in Architecture, Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology have been chosen.”
Apart from PCM, the subjects which are eligible for admission to the three courses include Computer Science, Electronics, Information Technology, Biology, Informatics Practice, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subjects, Agriculture, Engineering Graphics, Business Studies and Entrepreneurship.
AICTE has also decided that two additional seats per course will be reserved for COVID-orphans covered under the ‘PM CARES’ scheme in all affiliated polytechnic institutions from the upcoming academic session 2022-23.
