Board Exams 2022: Supreme Court Agrees to List Plea seeking cancellation of offline board exams.
The petitioners and the students are hoping that if the physical board examinations cannot be turned into a purely internal assessment, the board should at least convert it into objective questions and not a complete subjective question-based examination.
The Supreme Court, on Monday, agreed to list plea seeking cancellation of offline board exams for classes 10 and 12, which are to be held in the next few months by CBSE, ICSE, NIOS and several other education board in states this year.
Advocate Prashant Padmanabhan mentioned this petition before Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana. It will now be listed before a bench headed by Justice AM Khanwilka. “This is regarding class 10 and 12 board exams. There should be no physical examination due to the pandemic,” said advocate Prashant Padmanabhan. “Let the matter go before the bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar,” the bench said.

The petition has been filed by Anubha Srivastava Sahai, a lawyer and child rights activist, with the students’ union of Odisha-NYCS as the second petitioner. Thousands of students came together to sign Google forms in connection with their protest, and the petitioners randomly selected two students from each state from those records, spoke to them on the phone, and then added their names to the petition.

For the previous term and some other exams, the question papers have been mainly MCQs/objective based. Srivastava Sahai claimed that therefore, students have lost the habit of practicing and writing.
Now that Term I board exams (and some other exams too) are being conducted in offline mode with subjective questions, the petitioners and students feel that this is unfair and will add to their mental pressure.
Through this petition Srivastava Sahay is urging CBSE and all other boards to focus on declaring the result without any delay. “If CBSE and other boards keep delaying results in this manner, it may create big problems for students as they may miss the university deadline, or their admissions for higher studies may be delayed. Due to which other admissions may also get delayed in future.
