Students of Jamia Millia Islamia protest Demanding the Reopening of the campus.

JMI has been closed for more than two years and students from all over the country have been demanding reopening of campus for physical/offline educational activities.

Students of Jamia Millia Islamia, a on Friday staged a protest demanding the resumption of academic activities on the campus and officials assured that the university would be reopened soon in a phased manner.

The Left All India Students Union (AISA) along with other student organizations and students of Jamia demanded the reopening of the campus.

Students claimed that when they reached in front of gate number 7, Delhi Police started detaining them. However, the police denied the allegation. He alleged that seven students were detained in one batch and two in the next batch.

The Chief Proctor spoke to the protesters and announced that Jamia Millia Islamia would reopen in phases and the notification for the first phase would be issued by Tuesday.

The protesting students threatened to agitate if the notification for reopening was not issued by Tuesday.

Another official said the university is planning to first call students who have passed their PhD submissions and students from the dentistry department where practicals are needed, as reported by PTI.

Waseem Ahmad Khan, Chief Proctor of the university, said, “A meeting was held between the Deans and Chairpersons and by next week, a notification for phased re-opening of campus will be issued.”
