Medical Admissions: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed on Saturday that candidates from other reserved categories also be brought under the ambit of the investigation. The probe concerns allegations that students used forged documents, such as permanent residence and freedom fighter dependent certificates, during the state-level NEET-UG counselling process to secure admission to medical colleges in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), officials will now scrutinize and verify documents submitted across all reserved categories. The statement noted that if any forged documents are discovered during the investigation, the associated admissions will be cancelled, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.
Officials stated that while the initial complaints involved fake freedom fighter dependent certificates, the state authorities decided to expand the scope of the investigation due to growing suspicions of document fraud in other reserved categories as well. The CMO confirmed that the certificates of eight candidates have been cancelled, resulting in the cancellation of their admissions.
The Chief Minister has also ordered investigators to determine how these forged documents were issued and to identify the culprits. He emphasized that any government official or employee found involved in this alleged racket would face severe disciplinary and legal consequences.
Chief Minister Dhami said, “Securing medical admissions through fake certificates is an offence as serious as cheating in the examination. As soon as this matter came to light, officials were instructed to conduct a transparent investigation and take action. Expanding the scope of the probe, certificates from all categories will now be scrutinised. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”
He emphasised that document verification procedures across the state would be further tightened to prevent such incidents during future medical admissions. Earlier, Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal had directed the District Magistrate of Dehradun to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within a week.
