Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati and Oil India Ltd, signed MoU to develop new technologies for energy.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati would collaborate with Oil India Limited (OIL) on the development and introduction of new technologies, energy, and related sectors. The IIT Guwahati and Oil partnership and overall aim will also focus on cooperation in transfer of existing technologies, Knowledge up-gradation and innovation partnership, Training and skill development, etc. and other areas of mutual agreement.

This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed on November 11, 2021, by professor T.G. Sitharam, Director of IIT Guwahati, and Mr. Sasanka Pratim Deka, Executive Director, Oil India Limited, in the presence of the institute Faculty and OIL Executives.

This will help them to bring together to enhance innovation and growth in technology.

“This MoU will facilitate a new path for exploring various opportunities in applied and translational research for the sustainable energy sector with OIL.

IIT Guwahati is among the few top institutions in India that are dedicated to developing state-of-the-art technologies and skilled manpower in the field of petroleum and allied industries, said Prof. T.G. Sitharam, Director, IIT Guwahati.

How is this Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati and Oil India collaboration beneficial?

According to MoU, this collaboration is equally beneficial for both parties. As it helps the industry with work-ready talent along with specialized knowledge and practical training, academic benefits, and also helps to explore the ground realities.

Significance behind this collaboration:

The Engineering Service Group of Oil India Limited constitutes mainly core engineering departments, like Electrical, Civil, Field Engineering, Instrumentation, Field Communication, Information Technology, and logistics.

The Engineering Service Group makes available various essential engineering services to the core areas like exploration, drilling, and production of crude oil and natural gas, transportation of crude oil, and production of LPG to the company’s other businesses.

“Oil India Limited firmly believes that the MoU will facilitate a quantum jump in efficiency in the process, thereby contributing to profitability,” said Executive Director, Mr. Sasanka Pratime Deka, Oil India Limited.

About IIT Guwahati:

Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, the sixth member of the IIT fraternity, was established in 1994. The academic programme of IIT Guwahati commenced in 1995. At present the Institute has eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centres covering all the major engineering, science and humanities disciplines, offering BTech, BDes, MA, MDes, MTech, MSc and PhD programmes.
