New Delhi: India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement has been delayed due to inclement weather conditions in Mumbai. India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, along with Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the men’s selection committee, were scheduled to jointly hold a press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Tuesday, August 19, at 1:30 PM IST to announce the Asia Cup 2025 squad.

The decision has been taken amid growing concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruptions and public safety due to incessant rains in the city and its suburbs. All eyes are on the selection of Shubman Gill. He has not been part of the T20 International team since 2024, but a section of the media is speculating about his return.

At the same time, another section says that the selectors will retain Tilak Verma in the team. Shreyas Iyer (an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian team as a right-handed middle-order batter) or Yashasvi Jaiswal as well as spinner Kuldeep Yadav are also expected to return.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a red alert for extremely heavy rains in Mumbai, following which the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced the closure of all government, semi-government and BMC offices in Mumbai. The decision comes amid growing concerns over waterlogging, traffic disruptions and public safety due to incessant rains in the city and its suburbs.
