Central University Affiliated Colleges Admission Criteria 2022: 70-75% Weightage for Board Results, Rest for (CU-CET) Scores.

The first CUCET is expected to be held in June and the exam scores will go towards preparing merit list for undergraduate admissions in colleges affiliated to the Central Universities

Central University- Common Entrance Test (CU-CET) for 2022-23 is likely to bring 70% – 75% board exam score as eligibility criteria for admission to 41 central universities. Keeping up with the importance of board examinations, this step has been taken to ensure fairness in the ‘cut-off race’.

The first CUCET is expected to be held in June and the exam scores will go towards preparing merit list for undergraduate admissions in colleges affiliated to the Central Universities of JNU and Banaras Hindu University and Delhi University.

The cutoff marks of 99% or above in DU has been a major issue of concern as the increased marks awarded by some boards became unfair to other students when the admission to the college alone was determined. At the same time, ignoring the marks of the board examination weakens the school education.

The final outline of the CUCET will be decided by mid-February but it is likely to be a computer based/ online objective test of three hours. The CUCET will have one part to test language proficiency and another part on the chosen set of subjects. The subject combination will continue with the stream in class 11 and 12.

CUCET 2022, to be conducted by the National Testing Agency, will be based on the Class 12 syllabus alone, unlike JEE and other entrance exams, which consider the syllabus for Class 11 as well. The exam will be conducted in 13 languages to ensure equal opportunities for students from different linguistic backgrounds and mediums of instruction.

While a UGC committee on the CUCET scheme also suggested an aptitude test, for a holistic approach to higher education options, the Center is expected to ignore the suggestion this year in view of the challenges created by the pandemic.

A calibrated approach will be taken for this year’s CUCET, taking into account the fact that students have lost two years of complete schooling due to the pandemic induced learning gap. The UGC has asked all the central universities to prepare for the CUCET rollout this year. Central University DU and JNU, among others, are already on board.
