As part of this week-long initiative, the institute organised an interactive online session titled ‘PREM – Parents’ Role in Encouraging and Mentoring’ for the parents of IIT Madras students. The session aimed to provide practical guidance to parents on understanding students’ needs, communicating effectively, and supporting their emotional and mental well-being. It acknowledged that the transition to college is a significant phase not only for students but also for their families, and that family support and encouragement are crucial for their well-being.

Speaking on the occasion, IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti said, “Happiness is a collective responsibility. As an institute, we are continuously adopting new methods to reduce stress among our bright students.

The PREM and SAFE initiatives have been launched with this very objective. I extend my sincere thanks to Dr. Yamini Kannappan for introducing the SAFE manual; it will help parents identify and support children who are struggling with stress.”
