Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israeli PM Netanyahu shared a car ride after delivering speeches in the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset, on Wednesday. Following their official engagements in the parliament, the two leaders were heading to a technology exhibition showcasing progress and innovation.
Sharing the photo, Israeli PM Netanyahu wrote in Hindi, “हम साथ आगे बढ़ रहे हैं – further strengthening the India-Israel partnership in technology and innovation.”
Earlier, PM Modi addressed the Knesset and interacted with its members, emphasising the long-standing friendship between India and Israel. He emphasised the strong goodwill of the people of India towards the people of Israel.
“It was an honour to address the Knesset. It was also a pleasure to interact with prominent members of the Knesset. My speech highlighted the deep friendship between our countries and the good feelings of the people of India towards the people of Israel,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
The Knesset on Wednesday awarded Prime Minister Narendra Modi its highest honour, the “Speaker of the Knesset Medal.” The award was given for his “outstanding contribution through his personal leadership” to strengthening the strategic relationship between India and Israel.
The Honour was Presented After his Speech in the Israeli Parliament
PM Modi said in his speech in Parliament, “Long before we connected as modern nations, we had a relationship that dates back more than two thousand years. India is referred to as Hodu in the Book of Esther. The Talmud mentions ancient trade with India.”
PM Modi said that the foundation of the India-Israel partnership lies in the strong ties between their peoples.
Recalling his visit to Israel in 2006, he said that since then, yoga has become very popular throughout the country, and its centers are now common in many areas. He also noted the growing interest in Ayurveda and encouraged young Israelis to visit India to experience its cultural vibrancy and holistic health traditions. The loudest applause from the audience came when Benjamin Netanyahu recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clear condemnation of the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, and his subsequent show of solidarity with Israel.

Israeli PM Netanyahu said, “Israel has another reason to love you: right after the terrible attack on October 7, you were so morally supportive of Israel. You didn’t cower, you didn’t waver, you stood with Israel and the Jews. Thank you.” This visit, at Israeli PM Netanyahu’s invitation, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second visit to Israel. His first visit in 2017 was a significant occasion as he became the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country.
