MHTCET Exam 2027: Starting this year, both attempts for the Maharashtra Health and Technical Common Entrance Test 2027 (MHT CET 2027), used for admission to engineering and pharmacy courses, will be conducted after the Class 12 board examinations.

The Department of Higher and Technical Education stated that this decision was reached following consultations with parents, admission counsellors, and other stakeholders. Concerns had been raised that the first attempt (originally proposed for December) would fall too close to the Class 12 board exams.

Although the CET Cell has not yet announced the final schedule, both attempts are likely to take place between March and May, with a gap of at least four weeks between them. For admission purposes, the candidate’s best score from the two attempts will be considered.

Under the original plan, the first attempt was scheduled for December 2026 and the second for April 2027. An official of the CET cell stated, “Nevertheless, before finalising the schedule, multiple suggestions were received by the state’s Higher and Technical Education Department and the CET cell.”

MHT CET 2023

It was mentioned that the first MHTCET Exam attempt coincided closely with the 12th-grade board exams, which could have made preparing for both a challenge for aspirants.

It was mentioned that the first MHTCET Exam attempt coincided closely with the 12th-grade board exams, which could have made preparing for both a challenge for aspirants. The official added that, for this reason, it was decided to hold both attempts after the Maharashtra State Board’s Class 12 examinations (scheduled for February).

The state introduced the two-attempt system last November. Its objective was to elevate the MHTCET Exam to the level of national entrance exams such as the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), while simultaneously providing students an opportunity to enhance their scores and alleviating the stress tied to one major exam.

As the decision was made late, both attempts for the 2025-26 academic year were conducted in April and May. While planning this year’s schedule, specifically to ensure a significant gap between the two attempts, the state sought feedback from students and other stakeholders.

Officials noted that the responses varied widely, particularly from remote districts like Nandurbar, Dharashiv, and Chandrapur. Representations highlighted that practical assessments for the Class 12 board exams begin in January. A CET official stated, “Many felt it was unfair for students to have to prepare for and appear in the first attempt of the MHTCET Exam right before their practical assessments, and they wanted both attempts to take place after the Class 12 exams.”
