UP Police Constable Exam: 122 Arrested for Impersonation, Cheating Across UP

UP Police Constable Exam: In the last two days, Uttar Pradesh authorities have caught more than 120 persons for their involvement in impersonating candidates and committing fraud during the police constable recruitment exam, as officials announced on Saturday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar revealed that out of the total 122 arrests, 15 were made in Etah, nine each in Mau, Prayagraj and Siddharthnagar, eight in Ghazipur, seven in Azamgarh, six in Gorakhpur, five in Jaunpur four in Firozabad, three each in Kaushambi and Hathras, and two each in Jhansi, Varanasi, Agra and Kanpur. Apart from this, one arrest each was made in Ballia, Deoria and Bijnor.

STF Additional Director General Amitabh Yash told PTI that the arrested persons were caught using copy booklets. He elaborated that while some were arrested for impersonating genuine candidates, others were arrested for cheating candidates. He said the arrests took place between February 15 and 17.

Additional Superintendent of Police Dhananjay Kushwaha said that 15 people, who were detained with the intention of adopting unfair tactics in the examination, are currently being interrogated by a monitoring team of the Kotwali police station in Etah.

However, the officer refrained from giving details about the modus operandi adopted by the arrested persons. In Ballia district, located in eastern Uttar Pradesh, a man allegedly collected money from candidates by assuring them that he would ensure their success in the exam.

According to a statement issued by Ballia Police, Saleem Ansari was caught by a team from Rasra police station. Police reported seizing Rs 8.99 lakh from Ansari, which he allegedly collected from candidates appearing in the examination.
