RCB Marketing Head Arrested: In the aftermath of the tragic stampede that claimed 11 lives during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL victory celebration at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 2, police on Friday took key arrests. Among those taken into custody was Nikhil Sosale, who heads Marketing and Revenue for RCB. In Bengaluru at Kempegowda International Airport, he was detained.
In addition, two senior personnel from DNA Entertainment Network; Sunil Mathew, Senior Event Manager Kiran Kumar, and the Vice President for Business Affairs were also arrested. One of the event organizers for the terribly failed celebration event was DNA.
Shortly after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ordered police to take strict action against those who deemed responsible for the bad management, overcrowding, and lack of safety measures that led to the stampede; The arrests came in. Speaking at a press conference, the Chief Minister informed that In light of this devastating incident, the cabinet has agreed to hand over the investigation to a judicial commission led by retired Karnataka High Court Justice Michael D’Cunha. Within 30 days, the commission has been asked to submit its findings on the matter. Siddaramaiah further confirmed that the CID would conduct a separate criminal investigation, with formal FIRs already registered.
“we have instructed the IGP and DGP to arrest the RCB official, event organizers from DNA, and a representative from the Karnataka State Cricket Association. Accountability must be ensured,” he said. The state government’s response also includes immediate suspensions for the inspector of Cubbon Park Police Station, the ACP of the area, and other officers who were responsible for overseeing the event’s security.
