Raipur: A shocking detail has emerged during the investigation into the BSc Agriculture paper leak at Chhattisgarh’s Indira Gandhi Agricultural University (IGKV), revealing a major lapse in exam security and integrity. Police state that the question paper was allegedly copied without opening the sealed envelope; a tiny hole was made in the envelope to insert an endoscopic camera (which is very small in size).
According to the FIR registered in the case, the small camera, typically used to view narrow and hard-to-reach areas inside the body, scanned the contents of the sealed envelope, which were subsequently leaked. Investigators believe that this method allowed access to the question paper without tampering with the sealed packet; this has emerged as the “modus operandi” for the crime.
In a hurriedly called press conference on Saturday, police revealed that the scanned paper was converted into an image or copy and circulated via WhatsApp to students approximately two hours before the Entomology exam began.
According to the FIR, Kawardha Agriculture College received an email regarding the leak at 8:41 AM, followed by similar information reaching university officials around 8:54 AM. Students and their representatives also informed the university about the portions of the paper that were circulating on WhatsApp.

Raipur Police Crime DCP Smriti Rajnala stated that six people have been arrested so far in connection with the leak. The arrested suspects include Yogesh Sonkesariya, a professor at a private college in Durg, and five students who allegedly purchased the leaked paper for ₹12,000 each.
Investigators also suspect that Sonkesariya had a major role in this operation. Citing the statement of the accused, the police said that Sonkesariya did not need to open the packet. After taking the sealed Entomology question paper home, he allegedly pierced the envelope with a needle and another sharp tool, inserted a ₹2,500 endoscopy camera through the small hole, and recorded the paper inside. Subsequently, he allegedly reconstructed the questions by watching the video, sold the paper, and passed it on to a network of students, from where it was circulated via social media handles.
The paper leak incident came to light on August 20, when the question paper began circulating on WhatsApp just before the exam. When the paper distributed at the exam centers was compared with the viral copy, they were found to be identical, causing a stir within the university administration. Consequently, the exam was cancelled, and a decision was made to conduct it again in the first week of September.
