NMC Information on Medical Courses in China: Online courses are not accredited.
NMC has issued a notice regarding the accreditation status of online medical courses being offered in China.
NMC Information: Taking cognizance of the issuance of notices by some universities in China for admission to MBBS programs for the current and upcoming academic years, the National Medical Council (NMC) has issued a notice regarding admission to these courses.
Universities in China offer online medical courses:
“It has come to the notice of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India that some universities in the People’s Republic of China have started issuing notices for admission to MBBS programs for the current and upcoming academic years,” read the official notice.
Students unable to attend universities in China:
The Council further advised prospective students to be aware that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of the People’s Republic of China has suspended all visas from November 2020.
The Council further pointed out that Indian students, among the large number of international students, have been unable to return to China due to restrictions and no relaxation of restrictions has been given so far.
A large number of international students, including Indian students, have not been able to return to China to continue their studies due to these restrictions. It further pointed out that the Chinese authorities had earlier said that the courses would be conducted online.
NMC does not recognize online courses:
With regard to the offer of online classes, the NMC information read, “As per the extant rules, the National Medical Commission does not recognize or sanction medical courses conducted by online mode only.”
It urged students to read the FMGE Regulations before applying or taking admission in any Chinese or foreign universities. “In view of the above, the students are advised to do due diligence for pursuing medical education,” read the notice further.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has been constituted by an act of Parliament known as National Medical Commission Act, 2019 which came into force on 25.9.2020 by gazette notification dated 24.9.2020. The Board of Governors in supersession of Medical Council of India constituted under section 3A of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 stands dissolved thereafter.
