DRDO India Missile Tests: India conducted three consecutive successful flight tests on June 10 and 11 (Wednesday and Thursday) to demonstrate the capabilities of its multi-layered Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system, designed to intercept long- and medium-range missiles.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Defence noted that these tests have placed India among the select group of nations possessing BMD capabilities capable of countering threats ranging up to Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). Currently, very few countries, including the US, Russia, China, and Israel, possess such capabilities.
DRDO India Successfully Tested two Advanced Interceptor Missiles
As part of efforts to develop India’s own version of the ‘Iron Dome’, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully tested two advanced interceptor missiles designed for Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) defence from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur. These interceptor systems are capable of detecting, tracking, and destroying enemy aircraft and ballistic missiles at ranges of 2,000-5,000 km.
Additionally, the maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile-Medium Range (NASM-MR) was successfully conducted. This missile demonstrates precise navigation, low-altitude sea-skimming flight, and terminal accuracy against maritime targets.
Congratulating the DRDO India, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh stated in a post on X on Saturday, “The multi-layered BMD capability was successfully demonstrated. These tests have inducted India into the elite group of nations capable of countering ballistic missiles, including ICBMs.” These tests showcase several critical technologies aimed at bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities against diverse enemy threats.
