NEET UG MBBS Course Fees: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed all medical colleges, institutions, and universities to charge MBBS fees strictly for the academic duration, specifically four and a half years, rather than for the entire course duration of five or five and a half years.
The NMC mentioned that the commission has received multiple complaints alleging that certain medical colleges collect fees from students for the entire MBBS program duration, which includes the mandatory internship period. The Commission explained that these practices don’t match the MBBS course’s academic instruction, causing students to be charged for periods without formal academic study.
MBBS UG Fees Only for 4.5 Years
According to established regulations, the MBBS program comprises 4.5 years or 54 months of academic study. This is followed by a one-year Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship (CRMI), which includes a mandatory training phase but does not fall under the purview of the academic study period. The NMC highlighted that fees should only be charged for the academic portion of the course.
The Commission further asserted that charging fees beyond the prescribed academic duration amounts to collecting money without providing any corresponding academic instruction in return. It underscored that the fee structure must be fair, transparent, and proportionate to the actual facilities and educational services provided to the students.

In its notice, the NMC has directed all medical colleges and universities falling under its jurisdiction to strictly adhere to these guidelines and ensure that students are not subjected to overcharging. Institutions have been instructed to align their fee structures with the officially prescribed duration of the course, explicitly excluding the internship year.
