It also plans to work with local partners to help organisations adopt AI responsibly and develop new applications for sectors like healthcare, finance, education, and manufacturing.

Indian officials welcomed the announcement, calling it a sign of confidence in the country’s tech sector. They noted that stronger cloud infrastructure could help businesses scale faster and support public-sector projects that rely on real-time data and automation.

The pledge comes as global tech companies race to build out infrastructure for AI, which requires enormous computing resources. By increasing its footprint in India, Microsoft aims to position itself as a key provider of those resources while tapping into one of the world’s largest and most dynamic technology markets. The company has not yet shared specific timelines for construction, but it says planning is already underway.

As demand for AI tools continues to surge, Microsoft’s new investment signals that India will play a central role in shaping the next phase of cloud and AI growth.
