Shubman Gill made history on Wednesday. He became the second batsman in the history of ODI cricket, after Rohit Sharma, to score more than one double century in this format. Gill achieved this feat in the 39th over while chasing a massive target of 406 runs in the second ODI against the West Indies in Guwahati.
Before Gill, only Rohit Sharma (3) had scored two or more double centuries in the 50-over format; Rohit holds the record for three double centuries.
Gill snatched the record for the fastest ODI double century from Ishan Kishan, who had taken 126 balls to achieve the feat. Following Glenn Maxwell’s spectacular innings against Afghanistan in the 2023 World Cup, this marked the second instance of a player scoring a double century while chasing a target.
