Protest by CJP at Jantar Mantar in Delhi: In anticipation of the protests announced by CJP and other parties at Jantar Mantar and various other spots in Delhi on Saturday, October 10, authorities have implemented precautionary measures. Today, Saturday, October 10, 2026, the capital has been turned into a fortress as the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) proceeds with its “Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest.
According to reports, the CJP is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the withdrawal of the ‘Special Intensive Revision’ of the electoral rolls, even though the Delhi Police has not granted official permission for the protest. Heavy security deployment is causing significant disruptions to movement across Delhi-NCR today.
Major metro stations have been closed, and train services cancelled due to apprehensions regarding “uncontrollable crowds moving towards sensitive areas.” The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that entry and exit at 45 metro stations will remain closed from 9 PM on Friday (October 9) until 6 PM on Saturday (October 10).

Meanwhile, anticipating traffic congestion, Indian Railways has announced the suspension of train services at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations for 10 hours, from 4 AM to 2 PM on Saturday (October 10). During this period, incoming mail and express trains will be cancelled at their originating stations.
Why has the Delhi Police ordered these closures?
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a youth-led protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10 against alleged “vote Chori.” The protest is demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign. CJP leader Abhijit Dipke has affirmed that they will march to Jantar Mantar at any cost.

Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been imposed in Central Delhi. Section 163 of the BNSS effectively replaces Section 144 of the CrPC. Under this, officials can impose temporary restrictions to prevent violence, riots, unlawful assemblies, and other situations that disrupt public order.
What will remain closed today?
A) Liquor shops closed: The Excise Department has announced that retail liquor shops across Delhi will remain closed on October 9 and 10. This closure applies to select shops selling Indian, foreign, and country liquor, including some located within malls.
B) Namo Bharat stations closed: The Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat stations in Delhi will also remain closed from 9 PM tonight (October 9) until 10 PM on October 10. During this period, Namo Bharat train services between Anand Vihar (Delhi) and Modipuram (UP) stations will continue to operate without interruption according to their scheduled timings.
C) Metro services suspended: Metro services will remain suspended, though other activities in the capital are expected to continue as usual. This closure aims to prevent large groups of people from reaching the protest site. These restrictions will not apply to metro stations not included in the DMRC’s list.
For security reasons, entry and exit at 45 metro stations will remain closed from 9:00 PM on October 9, 2026, to 6:00 PM on October 10, 2026.
This is not the first time authorities have closed metro stations and other modes of transport. In July of this year, 16 metro stations were closed during the CJP’s march to Parliament, which was held to protest alleged exam irregularities and demand the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest today
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) is holding its major “Jantar Mantar 2.0” protest today, Saturday, October 10, 2026. The main goal is to demand the immediate resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and the total rollback of the electoral roll’s ‘Special Intensive Revision’ (SIR). Driven by several key grievances, this youth-led movement has led to heavy security measures in New Delhi that feel like a lockdown.
