NTA Increases Duration and Expands Space for Rough Work: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has extended the duration for students taking the NEET UG 2026 re-exam. Previously, students were allotted 180 minutes (3 hours) to complete the exam; however, under the agency’s new guidelines, they will now have 195 minutes. With this change, NEET UG students will take the exam from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.
In its notice, the NTA stated that the exam duration has been increased to 195 minutes, scheduled from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, based on feedback received from candidates over the past few years. This timeframe accounts for essential exam formalities, such as signing attendance sheets and other invigilation procedures.
The NTA notice states, “This change in exam timing has been made to ensure candidates can fully utilize the allotted time without feeling that administrative procedures are cutting into their opportunity to solve the paper. Additionally, the space provided for rough work in the question paper booklet has been increased.”

Another important change is the expansion of space for rough work within the question paper booklet. Candidates preparing for the medical entrance exam will now have four pages for rough work, up from the previous two. To further enhance convenience, particularly for left-handed candidates, the layout has been redesigned: two pages for rough work will appear at the beginning of the booklet, immediately following the instruction page, while the remaining two pages will be available at the end.
NTA has Urged Candidates to Carefully Read the Instructions.
The notice adds, “Even minor improvements to the exam design can positively impact the candidates’ experience during the crucial examination.” The NTA has urged candidates to carefully read the instructions provided in their admit cards and the information bulletin, and to cooperate with the exam staff to ensure the smooth conduct of the examination.
For any queries, students can contact the NTA helpline number at +91-11-40759000 or send an email to neetug2026@nta.ac.in. Further information will be available on the official websites, nta.ac.in and neet.nta.nic.in.
