A cancer research project funded by the Madhya Pradesh government, which was supposed to utilise ‘Gobar’ (cow dung) and ‘Gau Mutra’ (cow urine), has instead become the subject of a multi-crore scam at Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University in Jabalpur.

Panchagavya Research: Gau Mutra and Gobar Cancer Research Project

Instead of using cow products, including milk, to fight cancer under the Panchagavya Research Project, the funds were allegedly spent on cars, air travel, and expensive machinery, an investigation has revealed. The investigation was ordered by Jabalpur District Collector Raghavendra Singh following complaints of misappropriation of research funds. He constituted a two-member committee headed by Additional Collector R.S. Maravi to conduct the inquiry.

An initial examination of the documents revealed that the research funds were spent on activities unrelated to the project, Maravi told TOI. The Panchagavya scheme was launched in 2011 when the state government sanctioned Rs 3.5 crore for research on using cow dung, cow urine, and milk to combat serious diseases like cancer.
