The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) announced the results of its 70th Combined Competitive Examination on Saturday, selecting a record 2,027 candidates, the highest number for any state service examination since independence. Shraddha Pandey from Uttar Pradesh topped the merit list.

Four female candidates made it to the top 10: besides Shraddha Pandey, Rashmi Kiran took sixth position, Upasana Sharma ninth, and Priya tenth. Shashank Pandey and Aksh Vijay secured second and third positions, respectively. Female candidates accounted for 45 of the top 100 ranks.

According to BPSC Secretary Satya Prakash Sharma, “The selection of 2,027 candidates out of 5,449 who appeared for the interview in the 70th BPSC is significantly different and remarkable compared to the selection of 475 out of 1,250 in the 69th BPSC and 324 out of 817 in the 68th BPSC.” Sharma stated that measures such as selecting interview panels via a lottery system and including senior IAS and IPS officers, Padma awardees, and experts from IITs and IIMs contributed to improving the quality of the selection process.

In the preliminary examination results announced on January 23, 2025, 21,581 candidates qualified for the main examination. The main (written) examination was conducted from April 25 to April 30, 2025, across 32 centers in Patna, with 21,027 candidates appearing for it.

A total of 4.83 lakh candidates had applied online application for Preliminary exam. The preliminary examination was held on December 13, 2024, at 911 centres across 37 districts. Following reports of irregularities at Patna’s Bapu Pariksha Parisar, the examination at that centre was cancelled and re-conducted on January 4, 2025, at 22 centres in the city.

In total, 3,28,990 candidates appeared for the preliminary examination. The results of the main examination were declared on December 16, 2025, with 5,449 candidates shortlisted for the interview stage.
