India-Japan Talks: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Japan on August 29-30, 2025. During this visit, both countries will enhance the 2008 Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation, initiate an economic security initiative focusing on semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), and critical minerals, and increase the investment target to 7-10 trillion yen, as reported by The Indian Express.

Prime Minister Modi and Shigeru Ishiba (Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party) will attend the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit 2025 and are also expected to travel by bullet train to Sendai city (in Japan’s Tohoku Region), known for its semiconductor capacity. A joint statement, along with a vision statement, will be released during the visit.
India-Japan Annual Summit 2025 is proving to be a turning point: India and Japan are not only reaffirming their long-standing ties but also further expanding their engagement across a range of sectors, from defence to digital infrastructure and renewable energy, and embedding these ties deeply into local governance and regional strategy.

According to media sources, India and Japan are collaborating to enhance their bilateral energy partnership, launch a digital partnership, and establish a new mobility partnership involving railways, roads, and bridges across India.
