India’s 79th Independence Day 2025 Live Updates: India is gearing up to celebrate its 79th Independence Day on Friday (August 15, 2025). President of India Draupadi Murmu honoured freedom fighters and praised the country’s democratic principles in her Independence Day address. Draupadi Murmu President of India, emphasised India’s economic strength, noting 6.5 per cent Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, infrastructure development, and key initiatives like Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Urging a unified commitment to transform India into a developed nation by the year 2047, the President of India also referred to the nation’s resolute action against terrorism through Operation Sindoor and said, “I am confident that Operation Sindoor will be remembered in history as a landmark example in the global fight against terrorism.”
Independence Day 2025 Celebrations:
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi will preside over the Independence Day celebrations to be held at Delhi’s Red Fort on Friday, where he will hoist the national flag and deliver his address to the nation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be accompanied by Flying Officer Rashika Sharma, and the flag hoisting will be followed by a 21-gun salute by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial). This year, around Five Thousand (5,000) distinguished guests have been invited to attend the celebrations to be held at the Red Fort.
‘New India’: An important attraction this year is the commemoration of the achievements of Operation Sindoor. The view cutters on Gyanpath will have the logo of Operation Sindoor, and the floral decorations will also reflect the same theme. The invitation cards will display both the logo of Operation Sindoor and the watermark of Chenab Bridge, symbolising the rise of a ‘New India’, which is the central theme of this year’s Independence Day celebrations.
