Emilia Pérez Dominates Oscar 2025 97th Academy Awards Nominations; The 97th Academy Awards are scheduled for March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Comedian Conan O’Brien will host the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on ABC and streamed on Hulu.
The nominees for the 97th Academy Awards have been revealed, and the list of nominees is largely expected. Emilia Perez has taken the Oscar 2025 by storm and earned 13 nominations, making it one of the most-nominated non-English films in history.
Not only did Emilia Perez secure the expected nominations, but it also managed to land key spots in its “on the bubble” categories, including Best Cinematography, Best Sound, Best Picture and Best Director.
Close behind were The Brutalist, a historical epic exploring the immigrant experience, and Wicked, the big-screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical, both securing 10 nominations. Conclave, a thriller revolving around the election of a new pope and A Complete Unknown, a look at Bob Dylan’s early years, each earned eight nominations.
All five films are competing for Best Picture, the night’s most coveted award, alongside indie darlings like Anora, Nickel Boys, and I’m Still Here, as well as the body-horror film The Substance and Dune: Part Two, a rare studio blockbuster to snag major Oscar attention.
The Best Picture Category Includes a Wide Variety of Films, Including Emilia Pérez:
- Emilia Pérez
- Wicked
- The Brutalist
- Dune: Part Two
- A Complete Unknown
- I’m Still Here
- Nickel Boys
- Anora

- The Wild Robot
In the acting categories, Timothée Chalamet is nominated for Best Actor for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown,” while Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande are both nominated for their performances in “Wicked.”
This year’s nominations have sparked discussions due to notable snubs, including Selena Gomez for “Emilia Pérez” and Daniel Craig for “Queer.” Additionally, the inclusion of “Emilia Pérez” has faced criticism for its portrayal of Mexicans and trans individuals.
Despite the challenges posed by recent wildfires in Los Angeles, the Academy has confirmed that the ceremony will proceed as planned, aiming to honor frontline workers and support relief efforts.
