Delhi High Court Passes Order Protecting Personality Rights of Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev

The High Court passed the interim order in favour of Mr. Vasudev, who had sought protection from infringement of his personality rights by rogue websites and unknown entities.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev: The Delhi High Court has passed an order to protect the personality rights and publicity rights of Isha Foundation founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev and restrained various rogue websites from misusing his personality traits using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The High Court passed the interim order in favour of Mr. Vasudev, who had sought protection from infringement of his personality rights by rogue websites and unknown entities. It said Mr. Vasudev had acquired uniqueness in his personality with respect to his voice, name, signature, image, likeness, singing, pronunciation style and his unique attire, look or appearance.

The High Court said that the offending content not only infringed the personality rights of Mr Vasudev but the defendants also went an additional step by using modern technology to alter his images, voice, likeness and video for commercial gain.

The court said, “If this is allowed to continue, it will soon spread like an epidemic and will have widespread, uncontrollable consequences, especially because this is a social media platform and there is an internet portal.

If this is not stopped, there is a possibility that the (false) message will spread like wildfire and there will be hardly any water left to extinguish it.” The court ordered the suspension of accounts and removal of YouTube channels that specifically related to content infringing Mr. Vasudev’s personality rights, and directed that their original subscriber information be disclosed.
