1. Know the counselling authority- After the declaration of NEET UG results, two counselling authorities do the seat allocation, which are MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and the respective State Counselling Authority for 85% State Quota. If students are eligible, they miss out on this opportunity by not enrolling in the central and state level counselling.

2. Register quickly and correctly- Counselling registration is usually done soon after the NEET results. You have to register on the MCC or state counselling website with proper personal, academic and NEET information. A small mistake during registration can make you lose your seat.

3. Choice Filling: Most students choose only the top colleges they expect to get into. But counselling is all about strategy. Always fill a large number of choices in order of preference, including safe and backup ones. The more colleges you fill, the higher are the chances of allotment.

5. Do not miss document verification- After allotment, document verification is mandatory. Keep original certificates and photocopies, NEET scorecard, admit card, 10th and 12th mark sheets, identity proof, category certificate (if any) and passport size photographs in hand. Not having even, a single document may lead to disqualification.

6. Upgradation and exit options- If you are not happy with your seat allotment, you can opt for upgradation in the next round. But be aware of the rules, after some rounds, usually after round 2, you may not be allowed exit. So, take a decision carefully.
