B. Tech Placement: CSE department continues to be a top performer

IIT Kanpur’s CSE department continues to be a top performer in placement results. In the 2022-23 placement cycle, Computer Science graduates recorded average packages of approximately ₹33-35 lakh per annum, with top domestic and international offers exceeding ₹1 crore. The momentum continued in 2023-24, with average packages rising to approximately ₹37 lakh, while the median remained at approximately ₹31 lakh.

For 2024-25, reports indicate that despite a global slowdown in technical hiring, CSE graduates again led with average offers of approximately ₹40-42 lakh. This trend underscores IIT Kanpur’s strong interface with top-tier global recruiters such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple, as well as AI-focused startups and financial analytics firms.

The CSE department at IIT Kanpur continues to command the highest salaries among all B.Tech branches. In 2022-23, Computer Science graduates recorded an average package of around ₹32-33 lakh per annum, with top domestic offers exceeding ₹1 crore and international offers exceeding ₹1.9 crore.

B. Tech Placement: Average salary increased to ₹36-38 lakh

According to CDC data, the average salary increased to ₹36-38 lakh in the following year (2023-24), while the median package remained around ₹42 lakh. The initial placement cycle for 2024-25 reflects continued momentum – average salaries were around ₹40-42 lakh, and many students received offers exceeding ₹1 crore, confirming IIT Kanpur’s robust technical placement ecosystem.
