IIM Jammu to Launch Satellite Campus in Leh this October With a 60-seat BBA Program

On Friday, the Ladakh administration and the Indian Institute of Management Jammu (IIM Jammu) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up a satellite campus of the institute in Leh, Ladakh. The aim of this initiative is to improve access to quality management education for students in the Union Territory. Officials mentioned that the MoU was signed in the presence of Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena.

A four-year BBA (Honours) program will be offered at the satellite campus, admitting 60 students initially. Officials state that the program is set to begin in October 2026. The campus infrastructure was ready in a mere two months after the Ladakh administration and IIM Jammu launched the initiative.

Officials reported a positive response to the proposed program, with approximately 600 candidates showing interest in the 60 available seats.

Saxena remarked that the establishment of the satellite campus marks a significant milestone in Ladakh’s higher education system, opening new avenues for knowledge, innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional development for the region’s youth.

He noted that for years, students from Ladakh aspiring to quality management and professional education had to travel outside the Union Territory, incurring expenses on travel, accommodation, food, books, and other necessities. The Lieutenant Governor stated that providing quality management education within Ladakh would alleviate these hurdles, enabling more young people to pursue higher education without having to leave the Union Territory.

He added that the campus would also contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). Also present on this occasion were Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra, Milind Kamble, Chairman of the IIM Jammu Board of Governors, B.S. Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, Higher Education Secretary Bhanu Prabha, along with senior officials from the UT administration and IIM Jammu.
