Bangladesh reached the semi-finals without even stepping onto the field. Meanwhile, on Thursday (September 17, 2026), Pakistan secured a semi-final berth after a hard-fought victory over Thailand in a low-scoring thriller during the Asian Games women’s cricket competition.
Bangladesh advanced based on their superior international ranking after their quarter-final match against China was called off due to a wet outfield. The T20 match, scheduled to be held at the Karoji Sports Park in Nishin City, Aichi Prefecture, was abandoned without the toss taking place.
Bangladesh currently holds the 10th spot in the ICC T20 International rankings, while China is ranked 36th in Asian Games 2026.
On the other hand, Pakistan won by three wickets while chasing a target of 92 runs set by Thailand; the match had been shortened due to the wet outfield.
Bangladesh will face the winner of the quarter-final between India and Japan (scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026) in the semi-final on September 20. Pakistan will also face the winner of the match between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, scheduled for Friday, in their semi-final.
The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is the defending champion of this tournament, which features only eight teams and began at the quarter-final stage.
Due to ground conditions, the match between Pakistan and Thailand also started late and was eventually reduced to 11 overs per side. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Thailand’s batters performed well, posting a total of 91 for 4. Wicket-keeper Nannapat Koncharoenkai, batting at number three, was the top scorer with 49 runs off 38 balls, including seven fours. In reply, Pakistan’s performance was, as usual, a rollercoaster ride, with wickets falling at regular intervals.
Only Shawal Zulfiqar (25) and Fatima Sana (21) made notable contributions; the team’s batting faltered despite the modest target. For Thailand, off-spinner Onnicha Kamchomphu (3/37) and Sunida Chaturongrattana (2/23) performed well.
