UGC NET Exam: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Sunday that it would re-conduct the examination for three papers of the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET). This decision follows the discovery of “numerous errors” in the exams held between June 22 and June 30 this year.
The UGC NET exam is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professor positions and admission to PhD programs. This marks the second major exam cancelled by the agency this year; earlier, the NEET-UG exam held on May 3 was cancelled due to a paper leak, sparking nationwide protests.
In a statement, the NTA said it had constituted a committee to investigate multiple complaints regarding errors in the question papers for English, Commerce, and Sociology.
The committee discovered numerous factual, typing, and translation errors across all three papers. These included the misspelling of names of prominent scholars, incorrect book titles, errors in question phrasing, grammatical mistakes, issues related to gender and number, punctuation errors, the use of non-standard terminology for established concepts, and the repetition of several previously asked questions.
The committee recommended re-conducting the exams for these three papers to ensure a fair and error-free examination process,” the agency stated.
