RIMS Ranchi: After cancelling the admission of a first-year MBBS student for submitting a fake caste certificate, Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, will now verify the documents of 148 other students admitted to the MBBS course under the state quota in 2025.

This step has been taken as the institute decided to scrutinise essential documents, such as caste and residential certificates, to ensure that all admissions were based on genuine records.

Speaking to The Times of India (TOI), RIMS Public Relations Officer Dr. Shishir Kumar stated that the documents would be sent to the respective district authorities for verification.

Recently, various media outlets reported that RIMS, Ranchi, had cancelled the admission of a first-year MBBS student. An official inquiry revealed that the student had allegedly secured the seat by submitting a forged Scheduled Tribe (ST) caste certificate.

This student was from the 2025 MBBS batch. The action was taken after the district administration submitted an inquiry report confirming that the caste certificate used during admission was fake. The incident came to light after the institute received a complaint regarding the authenticity of the student’s admission records and requested the Deputy Commissioner of Sahibganj to verify the documents.

During the investigation, the district administration found that the ST certificate submitted by the student was not genuine. Based on the findings, RIMS cancelled the admission with immediate effect.

This move follows the cancellation of the first-year MBBS student’s admission on Monday. That student had submitted a fake Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificate at the time of admission last September. The PRO stated that the admission was cancelled after the district administration confirmed that the caste certificate submitted during the admission process was forged.

This investigation comes at a time when the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) conducted a search and examined documents at RIMS on June 24, following complaints of alleged irregularities in MBBS admissions and tender allotments.
