NEET-UG 2024 Controversy: SC Issues Notice on 14 Petitions Challenging Malpractices in Conduct of the Exam

NEET-UG 2024 Controversy: The Supreme Court has sought response from the Centre, National Testing Agency (NTA) and other concerned parties in connection with the petitions seeking cancellation of NEET-UG 2024 and initiation of a court-monitored investigation into alleged irregularities in medical admissions.
Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti, heading the vacation bench, also requested the parties concerned to provide their responses in connection with the separate petitions filed by the NTA. These petitions seek transfer of some pending cases from high courts to the apex court.
As per ANI report, “The Supreme Court also issued notice to the Center and NTA on a plea filed by some students who appeared at the Meghalaya center for the NEET-UG exam and allegedly wasted 45 minutes praying that they should be part of 1563 students.” Those who got grace marks were given the option to retake the exam on June 23. The bench has fixed the hearing on these petitions on July 8.
A petition filed by 20 students who appeared for the medical entrance exam has also requested the court to direct the NTA and other concerned parties to conduct the exam afresh, PTI reported. The petitions include four transfer petitions filed by the NTA, in which the court had stayed the proceedings before the respective high courts.
Hearing separate petitions related to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Graduate)-2024 exam, the top court had on June 18 said that even if there is “0.001 per cent negligence” on someone’s part in the conduct of the exam . This should be dealt with completely.
NTA conducts the All India Pre-Medical Entrance Examination. Recently, the Supreme Court addressed several petitions related to NEET-UG 2024 complaints, requesting a response from the Center and NTA.
One petition specifically sought a CBI inquiry into allegations of question paper leak and other exam irregularities. The exam was conducted on May 5 across 4,750 centres, in which around 24 lakh candidates appeared.
