Deepawali, also known as Diwali, is fundamentally the awareness of inner light. It’s kind of a celebration of the Inner Light’s emergence and ability to vanquish the powers of evil.
On this day, people wear new clothes, decorate their homes with diyas, rangolis, and ornamental lights, burn crackers, give presents, and perform Lakshmi Pujan in the evening. Following Dussehra or Vijaya Dashami by exactly 10 days is when Deepawali is observed.
Because of the air pollution that firecracker smoke generates, burning them poses a health risk. The environment is negatively impacted by pollution, which is a major problem in the modern world. All we can do is become more self-aware and search for environmentally beneficial alternatives.
The only thing left for us to do is to become more self-aware and look for more environmentally friendly methods to celebrate our festivals.
Let’s return to our customary traditions of celebrating Deepawali and mark the auspicious day with lights and diyas.
Here is how to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali:
1.Reduce your usage of electricity by using traditional methods to commemorate the occasion, such as lighting candles and diyas, which are a better substitute for typical electronic lighting. Decorate our homes with rangolis, flowers, LED lights, and lamps.
2. Use less fireworks since many people, especially kids, cannot celebrate Diwali without them. Since the air and noise pollution brought on by firecrackers must also be taken into account. One solution to this issue is to celebrate Deepawali as a community. Everyone will get to set off crackers, but there will be fewer of them.
3. Minimize the use of plastic: Diwali shopping is one of the festivities surrounding Deepawali that everyone looks forward to! But when you go shopping, you use lots of plastic bags. Say “No” to plastic shopping bags and choose instead for cloth bags the next time you go shopping.
4. Organic Rangoli Colors: Diwali celebrations are heavily centred around rangolis. Although pretty and colourful decorations make our homes look lovely, synthetic colours are hazardous when absorbed and can have major negative effects on one’s health.
Instead, use rangolis that may be constructed with flowers or use eco-friendly paints that don’t hurt the environment. It’s simple to find organic rangoli colours in the markets.
5. Use eco-friendly or green fireworks: First off, since there are so many other methods to celebrate Diwali, we should refrain from lighting fireworks. However, one of the best holiday activities for kids is lighting fireworks. Therefore, we can use the market’s selection of environmentally friendly crackers. These crackers were created with consideration for the environment. Additionally, they don’t represent a serious threat to health and generate fewer poisonous gases.
6. Prefer home-cooked meals and treats: Buying sweets and other food items from the market on Diwali is a regular practise. However, did you realise that the boxes used to pack these things are unsustainable and contribute to environmental pollution? As a result, we ought to cook at home and enjoy a green Diwali.
7. Burning crackers during Diwali releases a lot of smoke that may be harmful to health, especially for those who have respiratory disorders. Use air purifiers to avoid pollution. Utilize air cleaners that not only purify the air but also ward off pollution.
8. Prevent Noise Pollution By Avoiding Loud Music During Diwali Many people play loud music. People with heart problems and other anxiety disorders should avoid this. Additionally, it causes noise pollution. Therefore, in order to celebrate Diwali in an environmentally sustainable way, we should refrain from playing loud music.
