Former Chief Minister SM Krishna Passes Away: The government of Karnataka has announced a public holiday for government offices and all educational institutions across the state on Wednesday, in tribute to former CM SM Krishna (92), who passed away in the early hours of Tuesday December 12, 2024. The final rites for the stalwart leader will take place in Maddur, his hometown, on Wednesday.

The government of Karnataka has declared a three-day period of state mourning in honor of the esteemed politician and former Chief Minister S M Krishna. During this time, all public entertainment activities are banded throughout the state, and the national flag will be flown at half-mast on all government premises.

Former Chief Minister Krishna ji had been suffering from age-related issues for a while, and he was even admitted to the hospital multiple times. Former CM SM Krishna’s family relative and Karnataka deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is looking after the arrangements for the last rites of the veteran leader with full state honours.

PM Narendra Modi’s condolences:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his sympathies to the family of SM Krishna. In a statement, PM Narendra Modi remarked, “Shri SM Krishna Ji was an exceptional leader, respected by individuals from all sectors of society. He consistently dedicated himself to enhancing the lives of others.” He is remembered for his tenure as the Chief Minister of Karnataka, especially for his focus on infrastructure development. Late Shri SM Krishna Ji was also a prolific reader and thinker.”
