TISS Mumbai: The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata Graduate School of Social Work. Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is a multi-campus public research university in Mumbai, India. In 1944, it was renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The year 1964 was an important landmark in the history of the Institute, when it was declared Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

TISS has its main campus situated in Mumbai along with three other campuses – TISS Hyderabad, TISS Guwahati, and TISS Tuljapur. TISS Mumbai comprises of two campuses- the Main Campus located in Deonar in the North-East Section of Greater Mumbai and 2nd campus located in Tuljapur, Maharashtra.

In total, 52 courses are offered at TISS, Some of which are M.A. , M.P.H., M.Lib.Sc. TISS Mumbai Selection Process:

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai is a leading educations institute as a Deemed university under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956, TISS is popular among the MBA aspirants for its Master of Arts (Human Resource Management & Labour Relations) which offers wonderful career opportunities in the domain of Human Resource Management. Every year the institute conducts TISSNET exam to shortlist the candidates for various programmes conducted at Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati campuses.

The Mumbai campus of TISS houses 12 Schools, 6 Independent Centres, and 3 Resource Centres. MBA Aspirants seeking admission in the MA (HRM & LR) course can enroll in School of Management and Labour Studies which at present has 5 Centres in Human Resources Management and Labour Relations; Labour Studies; Social Entrepreneurship; Social and Organisational Leadership; Public Policy and Governance.

Master of Arts (Human Resource Management & Labour Relations)

The MA (HRM & LR) course is conducted by Centre for Human Resources Management and Labour Relations under the School of Management and Labour Studies in the Mumbai Campus. The programme intake capacity till date is of 60 students and formerly the institute used to give the degree of M.A. in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations to the candidates pursuing the same course. The objective of this course is to prepare the candidate to take up challenges of the corporate world with ease and handle them efficiently. The programme places importance on both theoretical and hands-on learning.

Eligibility Criteria of MA (HRM & LR

A candidate willing to seek admission in the MA (HRM & LR) needs to fulfil the eligibility criteria mentioned below:

  • A candidate must possess a Bachelor’s Degree of no less than 3 years of duration.
  • Candidates who are in the final year of their Bachelor’s Degree programme, but have not passed in all the courses (main/major/subsidiary, etc.) of the first and second years ( if the Degree is of 3 years duration) and first, second and third years (if the Degree is of 4 years duration) on the day of applying for the programme are not eligible to apply for any of the Master’s Degree programmes offered by the Institute.
  • Candidates declared as failed in the final year examination are not eligible to apply for any of the Master’s Degree Programmes of the Institute, unless they pass their Bachelor’s Degree examination on the day of applying for any of the programmes.

TISS: Admission process of MA (HRM & LR)

TISS follows a two step admission process before giving the final admission offer to the candidates. In the first step, the institute conducts its own entrance exam for which candidates can get register through the official website of TISS. The second step is all about Personal Interview for the programme in which the candidate has applied. Read on to find out more about the TISS admission process:

Step 1: TISSNET Exam

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) conducts its own National Entrance Test generally in the month of January every year. The entrance exam is conducted in online mode and is of generally descriptive type.

It should also be noted that TISS under any circumstances does not accept the CAT / MAT / CET / GRE / GMAT scores.

Step 2: Personal Interview

After the National Entrance Test, candidates are then shortlisted on the basis of their performance in the exam. The institute assess the performance of the candidates on the basis of various parameters and candidates are allotted marks according to those factors.

Step 3: Final Merit List

As the last step of admission process, a final merit list of all the qualifying candidates is prepared by TISS. Candidates scoring high on all the parameters such as TISSNET exam, GD and PI are then extended final admission offer.

TISS MA (HRM & LR): Programme Fees

The total course fee for pursuing MA (HRM & LR) from TISS is approximately INR 1.05 Lakh which includes fee for Tuition, Library, Examination Fee, Medical Examination Fee, Field Work Charges, Computer Charges, Convocation Charges, ID Card Charges, Students’ Competency Fund, Dev. Fund / Prog Fund, Students’ Union Fund, Medical Insurance Fund.

Apart from the mentioned academic fees, admission seekers are also required to pay caution deposits (refundable at the time of exit from the program on submission of NOC) which is INR 10,000/- with the 1st-semester fee.

Placements:

TISS Mumbai has concluded its 2022 placement drive. 100% of HRM and LR batch given placed. Maximum revenue grew through 45%, general revenue grew through 22% and average revenue grew through 19% over the previous year. Forty-two corporations like five first-time recruiters visited the campus. Top recruiters blanketed Accenture, Aditya Birla Group, Dell Technologies, TCS, Flipkart, and more.

TISS Admission 2022: Diploma, Certificate, Short-Term Courses:

In addition to all the PG and doctoral-level courses, TISS Mumbai offers a wide range of diploma, certificate, PG diploma, Executive PG diploma and short-term courses. Admission for all diploma, certificate, PG diploma, Executive PG diploma and short-term courses is subject to an interview conducted by the institute. For a PG diploma and two EPG diploma and programmes, however, the admission process is as follows:

PG Diploma in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene: Written Test and PI

Executive PG Diploma in Organisation Development and Change (EPGDODC): Written Test and PI

Executive PG Diploma in HRM: Those satisfying the eligibility requirements will be called for the Written Test and Personal Interview.
