57th Convocation Held at IIT Kanpur; Degrees Awarded to 2,332 Graduates
The academic procession symbolizing knowledge and tradition marked the beginning of the convocation ceremony at IIT Kanpur as it reached the auditorium.
Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) held its 57th convocation today. Degrees were awarded to 2,332 graduates in various disciplines.
The event was organized in two sessions with the main inaugural ceremony held at the Regal Main Auditorium of IITK. Professor Jayathi Y Murthy, alumnus of IIT Kanpur and President of Oregon State University, USA, graced the convocation as the special chief guest. The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Member of the Board of Governors (BOG), IIT Kanpur and Professor Manindra Aggarwal.

The convocation witnessed 2,332 graduates across various disciplines, including 226 PhD recipients, 457 M.Tech. recipients, 842 B.Tech. recipients, 165 MSc (2-year) recipients, 36 MBA recipients, 12 M.Tech.-Ph.D. (Joint Degree) recipients, 1 MDes (joint degree) recipient, 17 MDes recipients, 77 MS (by research) recipients, 40 PGPEX-VLFM recipients, 26 double major recipients, 89 dual degree recipients, 14 MS-PD (MS part of the dual degree) recipients, 125 BS recipients, and 205 eMasters degree programme recipients.
This year’s convocation ceremony honored outstanding students who were given awards in various categories for their achievements. Kunwar Preet Singh (Computer Science and Engineering) was awarded the President’s Gold Medal, while Viplav Patel (Chemical Engineering-Electrical Engineering) and Sarthak Kohli (Computer Science and Engineering) were awarded the Director’s Gold Medal for outstanding all-round achievement and leadership has been awarded 5-year and 4-year undergraduate programs respectively.
In the second session of the convocation, degree certificates were awarded to the graduating students in various lecture halls. Graduating students will also be able to access their digital degrees through IIT Kanpur’s in-house blockchain technology application, which secures degree certificates against counterfeiting, is globally verifiable, and is selectively releasable. .
