Basant Panchmi, also known as Vasant Panchmi is a joyful festival, celebrated in the 5th day of Magha month of our Hindu calendar. This vibrant festival is celebrated to welcome the spring season. This auspicious day is especially dedicated to our wisdom Goddess, Maa Saraswati. Students, scholars and artists worship Goddess Saraswati for blessings and success.
Goddess Saraswati is known for knowledge, intellect, music and art. On this sacred day, devotees wear vibrant yellow and white colored clothes. They offer flowers and sweets to Goddess and seek blessings.
Basant Panchmi: Puja Rituals
The auspicious time to perform puja rituals is 7.13 a.m. to 12.33 p.m. on 23rd January 2026. After puja rituals, sweets are distributed among family, friends and neighbours.
Vasant Panchmi is celebrated for vibrant colors, hopes, learning and creativity. Beautiful Rangoli is made with rice flour and water. Marigold flowers are used to decorate the house. It is advised to avoid wearing black colored clothes. Traditional sweets are made on this joyous day. Most loved traditional sweets made on this auspicious day are – kesar halwa, boondi laddoo, meethe chawal, puran poli, kesari kheer and besan ladoo.
Yellow colour is the main color of this sacred festival. The joyful yellow color symbolizes warmth, prosperity and happiness. This day has significance for farmers too. It is represented as refreshing starts, learning and renewals.
