BJP’s Mukesh Dalal Won the Surat Lok Sabha Constituency Without Facing any Opposition Before the Elections.
Gujarat BJP chief C R Patil took to Twitter (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Dalal, saying, "Surat has given the first lotus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi."
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Mukesh Dalal was elected unopposed from Gujarat’s Surat Lok Sabha constituency on Monday, giving the ruling party its first victory.
The development came after Congress candidate Nilesh Kumbhani rejected the nomination and all other candidates withdrew from the contest, which was confirmed by the party’s Gujarat chief CR Patil on Monday.
With no other contenders left in the race, Mukesh Dalal is set to win the Surat Lok Sabha seat without any contest. Gujarat BJP chief C R Patil took to Twitter (formerly Twitter) to congratulate Dalal, saying, “Surat has given the first lotus to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
“Congratulations and best wishes to Mukesh Bhai Dalal, candidate from Surat Lok Sabha Constituency seat, on being elected unopposed!!” He added.
A total of eight candidates, including Independent and Pyarelal Bharti of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), withdrew their candidature on the last day of withdrawal of nomination forms.
Nilesh Kumbhani’s candidature was rejected after the District Returning Officer identified discrepancies in the signatures of the proposers. The election officer considered the signatures on Kumbhani’s nomination form to be forged, leading to his candidature being cancelled. Apart from this, the nomination form of Congress’s substitute candidate from Surat, Suresh Padsala, was also invalidated.
