Who is Singai G. Ramachandran? A journey from IIMA to Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Startup Mission

Tamil Nadu Startup Mission: Singai G. Ramachandran has been appointed as Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (TANSIM) by the state government of Tamil Nadu. This appointment was made through a government order issued by the state’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Department.

Ramachandran holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA). He is also an alumnus of PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Ramachandran completed his high school education at PERKS Matriculation Higher Secondary School in 2003. Subsequently, he pursued a diploma in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) from PSG Polytechnic College between 2003 and 2007.

After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) from PSG College of Technology (2007, 2010), Ramachandran pursued an MBA at IIM Ahmedabad from 2013 to 2015.

Before entering active politics, Ramachandran worked as an entrepreneur in sectors such as consumer goods, digital media, and consumer business. In April 2015, he launched ‘Campus Cafe,’ an initiative linked to college canteens. He was a prominent AIADMK office-bearer in Coimbatore and served as the secretary of the party’s student wing from January 2025 to July 2026.

Ramachandran resigned from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) in July of this year and joined ‘Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam’ (TVK), the party founded by C. Joseph Vijay. Recalling his association with the party, he said, “It was ‘Puratchi Thalaivi Amma’ (the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa) who gave me the name ‘G. Ramachandran,’ and it was Amma who enabled my father, a humble mill worker, to become an MLA.

After my father’s sudden demise, my mother stood strong, faced every challenge, and ensured I received a good education and was raised with strong values.” Prior to this, he had held key positions within the AIADMK, including serving as the secretary of the party’s IT wing and student wing. He also contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Coimbatore constituency on an AIADMK ticket.

Subsequently, on August 11, 2026, he joined the TVK in the presence of party chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. Shortly thereafter, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Startup Mission. Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission (TANSIM) is the nodal agency of the Tamil Nadu government dedicated to fostering startups and innovation within the state.

This startup mission was launched with the aim of creating a conducive environment for entrepreneurs and supporting innovation, research and development, infrastructure, knowledge creation, technological advancement, and a skilled workforce.
