PM Modi on Saturday launched a scathing attack on the ruling All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal after President Draupadi Murmu expressed displeasure over the arrangements during her visit to the state, calling the incident “shameful and never happened before.”
In a post on X, PM Modi said the President’s remarks saddened people across the country, especially those who believe in the strength of tribal communities.
President Draupadi Murmu Raised Issues of Venue and Protocol
The political controversy erupted when President Murmu expressed concern over the arrangements for an international event in Siliguri during her day-long visit to the state on Saturday. President Murmu was in the city to attend the 9th International Santhal Conference organized by the International Santhal Council. Speaking at another event in Bidhannagar, the President questioned the choice of venue, saying the venue in Siliguri was too small for such a large crowd.
President Murmu said, “Mamata is like my younger sister. Perhaps she’s angry. I don’t know why they organized an international event in such a small place. If the place were bigger, more people would have come to the conference.” She also compared the venue to Bidhannagar, saying that if the conference had been held there, five lakh people could have attended.
President Murmu also pointed out a lapse in protocol during the visit, saying that neither Mamata Banerjee nor any state minister welcomed her.
