UK has Granted Student Visas to Over 1 Lakh Indian Nationals till June 2023

An official report released by the UK government's Home Office said, "Study grants for Indian nationals have increased significantly since the year ending June 2019 and are now almost 7 times higher."

A total of 1,42,848 student visas have been granted by the United Kingdom (UK) to Indian nationals in June 2023. This registered an increase of 54 per cent (49,883 more visas were granted) as compared to June 2022. Indian students account for a third of the total sponsored study grant main applicants, the highest of all nationalities.

An official report released by the UK government’s Home Office said, “Study grants for Indian nationals have increased significantly since the year ending June 2019 and are now almost 7 times higher.”

 “For the year ending June 2023, there were 4,98,626 sponsored study visas that have been granted to main  applicants, i.e. 23 per cent more than the year ending June 2022 and compared to the year ending June 2019 (+108 per cent) before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” it added.

Chinese nationals were the second most common nationality to receive sponsored studies; Means 1,07,670 visas were given. Chinese and Indian students accounted for half of the total sponsored study grants. Nigeria, Pakistan and the United States were ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Sponsored study visa holders are allowed to bring their partners and children to the UK as dependents. According to the data, 24 percent of all sponsored study-related visas were granted to dependents of students – 1,54,063 dependent visas were granted.

Of the total dependent visas, 72 per cent were granted to dependents of students from India and Nigeria. Nigeria has the highest number of dependents at 67,516, followed by India at 43,552. An increase in the number of dependents reflects an increase in the number of principal applications.

In June 2023, sponsored study extension visas also nearly doubled (98 percent) to 66,495. Chinese nationals accounted for two-fifths of the sponsored study extension, with India coming second with 9,153 visas, about 14 percent of the total.
