Studying in Germany: Germany’s Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann on Thursday said that the largest numbers of foreign students in Germany are from India, numbering over 42,000, a 25 per cent increase within a year.
“Great! 42,000+ Indian students in Germany, 25 % more within one year. India now no. 1 group of foreign students in Germany, much faster than expected! Germany is popular among Indian students – and Indian students are popular in Germany, I hear from professors very often,” Ackermann wrote an X.
In April, the Academic Assessment Center of the German Embassy announced that it would replace the mandate of paper-printed certificates with digital certificates.
Besides this, India and Germany last year signed an agreement to facilitate two-way movement of students, professionals and researchers and to address the challenges of illegal migration.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, a total of 34,864 Indian students were pursuing various courses in Germany in 2022.
Studying in Germany; From Tuition-Free Education to Internationally Recognized Degrees
Germany offers graduate programs in the fields of science, engineering, management, humanities and social sciences, arts, medicine, etc. The courses start in the winter or summer semester depending on the university. The duration is generally 3 to 4 years depending on the subject. Around 300 courses are available in English medium and around 2000 courses in German medium.
Most students from regions like India, Bhutan, Nepal etc. have to undergo a bridging course called Studienkolleg which requires fluency in German (approximately B1 level).
