SIIC IIT Kanpur: Kanpur, September 30, 2025: The Startup Incubation and Innovation Center (SIIC) at IIT Kanpur has achieved a historic milestone by incubating over 500 startups. It is one of the first IIT-led incubators in India to reach this figure.
Established in 2000 with the support of SIDBI, SIIC has emerged as one of the most successful and influential technology business incubators in the country, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and market-ready solutions that are transforming both industry and society.
Present at the event were IIT Kanpur’s Director, Prof. Manendra Agrawal; Deputy Director, Prof. Braj Bhushan; Dean of Research and Development, Prof. Tarun Gupta; SIIC In-charge, Prof. Deepu Philip; Chairman of the Geospatial Data Promotion and Development Committee, Shrikant Shastri; SIIC CEO, Anurag Singh; and COO & CFO, Piyush Mishra, along with members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Innovation and Research in Science and Technology (FIRST).
They lauded SIIC’s significant role in transforming cutting-edge innovations into ventures that contribute significantly to India’s rapidly growing startup ecosystem.
Commenting on this achievement, Prof. Mayank Agarwal, Director of IIT Kanpur, said: “This milestone of supporting over 500 startups is a testament to IIT Kanpur’s unwavering commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship for national development. Through SIIC, we continuously strive to bridge the gap between research and real-world applications, empowering entrepreneurs to create solutions that truly make a difference. This achievement further strengthens our role as a catalyst for transformative change in India’s innovation ecosystem.”
Today, the impact of SIIC extends far beyond just incubation. The startups nurtured by this center have collectively raised over ₹12,000 crore in funding, demonstrating their credibility in the competitive market. More than 150 women-led companies have emerged from the SIIC ecosystem, reflecting the incubator’s commitment to inclusive entrepreneurship.
The top 253 startups supported by SIIC have created over 10,829 skilled and unskilled jobs, with operations spanning 22 states across India, showcasing the center’s contribution to both economic and social development.
