NEET UG Retest: On Thursday, the Madhya Pradesh High Court reserved its decision regarding the appeal made by the National Testing Agency (an autonomous body of Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education of India), which contests a ruling by a single judge that mandated a re-examination of NEET UG 2025 for candidates who faced a power failure at examination centers in Indore and Ujjain, as reported by Live Law.

The panel of judges headed by Justice Vivek Rushia and Justice Vinod Kumar Dwivedi heard arguments from both sides before reserving the order. Previously, the MP High Court had stayed the ruling made by the single judge. The bench orally acknowledged the mental stress caused to students due to the disruption, however expressed concern over the practicality of re-examination.

“We understand the pain of students… But only a few of the 22 lakh candidates have been affected. Not all can be selected. Unfortunately, unfortunately,” the bench remarked.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the National Testing Agency, argued that an independent committee comprising professors from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT-Delhi) and other universities had found no significant performance difference between the affected and unaffected centres.

Mr. Mehta argued that the examination could continue due to the availability of natural light and diesel generators at some examination centres. Solicitor General opposed the demand for re-NEET UG examination, calling it a “second chance” and warned that re-examination would delay the entire admission process and academic calendar.
