IIM Ahmedabad Overseas Campus: On Thursday, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, officially inaugurated the Dubai campus of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM Ahmedabad), as reported by the Ministry of Education.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, currently on a two-day visit to the UAE, described this as a significant advancement in the globalisation of India’s educational system.
The Dubai campus of IIM Ahmedabad (Overseas Campus) aims to extend the best aspects of Indian education globally. Today, Dubai has offered an ideal platform for the principle of ‘Indian spirit, global outlook’ by hosting the international campus of IIM Ahmedabad,” Education Minister Dharvendra Pradhan stated on Twitter.
The Education Minister also met the UAE Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Abdul Rahman Abdulmannan Al Awar.
“The two education ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation in higher education and agreed to further deepen knowledge bridges, making knowledge, innovation, and research the central pillars of the comprehensive strategic partnership,” the Ministry of Education, (MoE) Government of India said in an official statement.
IIM Ahmedabad Overseas Campus Highlights
The discussions also centered on collaborative research in critical and emerging fields, enhancing capacity building, and fostering two-way cultural and academic exchanges. Highlighting that India serves as a global talent center while the UAE functions as a global economic center, both countries emphasized their mutual dedication to reinforcing people-to-people connections and promoting shared priorities.
Later, the minister also visited the Manipal University campus in Dubai, where he held a roundtable discussion with principals of Symbiosis, BITS Pilani, MIT, Amity, and other Indian higher education institutions.
Education Minister Pradhan enquired about the UAE’s academic vision and plans. The minister emphasised the need to move the research value chain beyond publication of research papers to productisation and marketing.
“He also noted that useful deliberations were held on strengthening Brand India on the global education, innovation and entrepreneurship map,” the statement said.
