New Delhi: After landing at Udhampur Air Force Station, PM-Narendra Modi flew to the Chenab bridge site to finally inaugurate the long awaited project. This trip also marks his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir post operation sindoor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the chenab railway bridge tiday. This is world’s highest rail bridge, infact 35 meters taller than Eiffel Tower. This also marked a major historic milestone in the journey of Indian Infrastructure.
PM-Narendra Modi, CM of J&K Omar Abdullah, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishaw, and union minister Jitendra Singh spoke to ecah other while viewing the exhibition on the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project.
PM Modi also interacted with engineers, workers and the officials who were actively involved in bringing this mega project that ‘connects Kashmir to the rest of India by rail’ to reality.
Today was not just about Chenab Rail Bridge; today PM Modi also flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains between Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar, which are completing the 272-km USBRL stretch.
The Chenab Bridge is part of Rs.43,780 crore Rail link, 359 meters above the riverbed and 35 meters taller than the Eiffel tower. This project by USBRL was estimated at the budget of Rs.43,780 crore. Stretching for around 119km, this project features 36 tunnels and 943 bridges. It offers rail connectivity in all types of weather between Kashmir and the rest of India.
The completion of this mega project is being seen as India’s capability towards regional development, national integration and potential Indian infrastructural growth.
The Chenab River is formed by the union of two main rivers, the Chandra and the Bhaga, which originate in the upper Himalayas in the Lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh, India. The Chenab flows through the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir, India, into the plains of Punjab, Pakistan, where it joins the Sutlej River to form the Panjnad, which eventually merges with the Indus River at Mithankot.
