Top IIMs In India

As the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill 2023 got a nod in both houses, the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) will be officially getting the new title of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Mumbai. This will make NITIE Mumbai the 21st IIM of the country.

IIM Mumbai will offer MBA General, MBA Sustainability, and MBA Operations and Supply Management, from the academic year 2024.

“This recognition reinforces their ongoing commitment to academic excellence in various domains, including industrial engineering, engineering management, and management sciences,” said professor Manoj Tiwari, director of NITIE Mumbai. “Starting next academic year, students will be admitted to three different MBA programs through CAT, which determines admissions to IIMs.”

Keeping this expansion in mind, the institute is now aiming to double the number of students enrolled and develop its existing infrastructure accordingly. “I would like to see double the number of students in IIM Mumbai and for this, we need better infrastructure, research and accommodation for the staff. We will work on this as early as possible,” Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman of Society and Board of Governors, NITIE, told media on Wednesday.

The fee structure is likely to increase as the institute plans to continue with the same intake of around 450–500 students per course. The focus will be on infrastructural development to increase capacity. The institute also plans to become self-sustaining and plans to raise funds from alumni and industry networks.
